Hot Rod Lincoln

My blogging journey began in 2008, when I heard about a challenge called 31 for 21.  31 for 21 bloggers agree to blog every day of October to raise awareness for Down syndrome (also known as trisomy 21).  I began writing Our Hot Rod Lincoln on October 1, 2008, exactly one year after our DS darling Lincoln was born.  Every October since then, I have logged 31 posts about raising a son with Down syndrome (with the help of some great guest bloggers), and our family has been blown away by the love and support we have received in response to our little blog.

Every year, as October came to an end, I closed up shop and forgot about blogging for the rest of the year.  I didn't intend to be a real blogger.  I didn't think I had the time or inclination to keep it up all year.  But this year, I started thinking that maybe I was ready to start writing about more than Down syndrome, maybe I was ready to start writing more often and broaden my scope.  I knew that I wanted to keep up the October posts about Lincoln, but I decided I might want to create a blog where I would feel comfortable writing about all the other aspects of our lives, a place where the 31 for 21 posts would have a home but not be the entire identity of the project.

After several months of trying to pin down what direction this new blog might take, I wrote my first blog post and the title just came to me.  These Square Pegs will continue the narrative begun with Hot Rod Lincoln every October.  I hope those who read Hot Rod Lincoln will make the transition over to the new site, and perhaps one of these days I will have time to transfer all the old posts to These Square Pegs.  Until then, the old posts will remain available at Our Hot Rod Lincoln in case anyone wants to start at the beginning and follow our progress. Thanks for reading!
